GUNPOINT and PRAYERS

Hello,
Thank you sooo much for your prayers for Mike and Nathan as they traveled from Port-au-Prince, north to Marose. So many verses come to mind tonight John 6:39, Deuteronomy 31:6, Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 46:1, and Thessalonians 3:3 which says “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one”. God was faithful today and protected Mike and Nathan. A bridge in Cabaret, just south of Acahaie, one of the hot spots I mentioned, broke this morning. Nathan could not get to the airport to pick Mike up. One of our friends, who is also a doctor in our clinic, lives in Port-au-Prince, so he picked Mike up and drove him to the broken bridge, Mike then walked from there to meet Nathan. He said it was chaos, truck drivers trying to toss their goods to trucks waiting on the other side of the bridge, thousands of people trying to figure out travel on the only highway going from Port-au-Prince to the northern part of the country, and having a bridge break, bringing ALL traffic to a stop. Then after connecting with Nathan, a group of motorcycles surround them and held them up at gunpoint. Mike said he was glad that it was just him and Nathan, as it was very unnerving having a gun in your face. Because they were on motorcycles, they were just after small things, so they did not take any luggage, but they took phones, money and wallets. Nathan unfortunately lost two good phones and his wallet, which had no money in it. The night before Mike left, I felt like God said to take a fake wallet and a broken phone. So when Mike met up with Nathan he hid his good phone and wallet. When they were held up minutes later, he had the broken phone and fake wallet (one of our kid’s play ones, complete with pretend credit cards and a few real dollars). God protected them, we know of others that have been shot, these men robbed them and then left. We are so thankful. God was faithful. Just minutes later UDMO, the Haitian police arrived for crowd control, they reported the robbery to the police, but probably nothing will come of it. I know we are constantly saying how important your prayers are to us, I hope you know that today they made all the difference.

On another note, Mike and Nathan would love your prayer covering this Friday and Saturday, for the first of two Pastors conferences. Pray for the Holy Spirit to open ears, minds and hearts. Also please pray this Sunday, as Mike has been asked to preach in Pass Rein. And again thank you for YOUR prayers.

This evening, Tuesday, Mike will be traveling to Haiti. The political atmosphere has settled down in some ways. Although there are still major problems within the government of Haiti. We have cancelled three trips and Mike is hoping that things have settled down enough for him to travel. There still are hot spots, especially in Port-au-Prince. There also are a few hot spots on the only highway in the country going north. The areas of Acahaie, Saint Marc and the cut off for Dessalines are the main hot spots traveling north. We are asking prayers for Mike and Nathan as they negotiate these areas, especially on Wednesday. But we would also appreciate your ongoing prayers for the people of Haiti who have to travel along this highway and for the government. The president of Haiti is trying to bring peace and stop corruption, but he is fighting against huge opposition, that does not want to loose their control of Haiti.


Mike will be teaching two pastor conferences while in Haiti,  trying to come along side of the leaders God has called us to partner with. One will be on "Unity of the Saints" and one will be on "Equipping the Saints for Ministry" these conferences are among a series of teachings that are leading our Haitian churches towards sustainable life giving ministry to their own people.

Mike will also be spending time with the leaders of our Children's Village, our schools and medical clinic and our transitional home for boys building relationships, which is key to the success of this ministry.

He will try to keep us updated as to prayer needs and stories.  We really appreciate your continued prayers for the ministry and the people of Haiti. YOU are making a huge difference in their lives.

We wanted to share some Easter Good News with you. Early Easter morning Pastor Nathan called to let us know that God was moving in our churches in Haiti.

Earlier in the month, Mike worked with the pastors on a sermon, so that every church taught the same basic message Easter morning, with the pastor of each church adding his examples and stories to the teaching. We also arranged for each child in every church to receive a coloring page of Jesus raising from the grave, along with crayons. Something that is assumed in Canada and the US, but is still a novelty in Haiti. The last two Easters this has proven to spark questions and interest from unbelieving parents, when the children bring this home and show parents who send their children to church, but do not attend church themselves. The churches also provided a meal to each person that attended church on Easter. I will post photos below.

Nathan spoke in Pass Rien today and said there were 4 salvation's. He also said that a women who was a witch doctor went to the morning service and gave her life to the Lord and then asked if the congregation would go to her place of voodoo worship and help her clean it out and she would burn it all. The theme in our US church this morning was, "He is still rolling stones". Well this morning in Pass Rein, Haiti, he definitely was "still rolling stones". How liberating to give your life to Jesus on Easter morning. Please pray for her and the other new believers.

We would like to invite you to our annual US fundraiser. We are really excited to share some stories and updates with you from Haiti.
The fundraiser will be held Friday, May 3, 2019 at 6:00 PM. The location will be at North County Christ The King Church in Lynden, WA. The cost is $40 per person. We would appreciate it, if you could RSVP by April 26th, this helps with preparing enough Prime Rib and other choices for everyone. I am excited about our theme this year, it will be based on The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. We are looking forward to seeing you.

Hoping all is well with you. We hope you are enjoying the early signs of spring.

We wanted to update everyone in regards to the current un-rest in Haiti. This past week the Prime Minister was dismissed. This was a good thing, as he was one of the major instigators of the riots taking place in Haiti. They now have an interim prime minister. Things have settled down for the most part. But there are rumors of more protests this coming week, and the US Embassy still has a level 4 travel alert for incoming visitors.  For that reason we have canceled our April team’s mission trip.

The common people of Haiti are not the ones wanting the political unrest to continue. Several times this past month, when there were dates of planned manifestations, the people ignored them and went about their business as usual, the best they could. The political unrest hurts the common people and does not help the country’s economy. There is still a fuel shortage and many other problems that the people of Haiti face on a daily basis, but the people are persevering against these odds. Please continue to pray for Haiti’s stability and security for the sake of the common people.

Please also pray for Mike, as he is deciding whether or not to go to Haiti on April 1^st.  Because of the unrest it has been a longer time between visits than usual for Mike and they are really wanting him to come.

On another note there continue to be many salvations in our churches, especially in Pass Rein, Amone-Bout-Nat and Marose.

This man named Jolistin, says he is so old that he cannot remember his age :) He accepted the Lord one month ago for the first time. He has 5 grown children. He is not married yet. He has spent a lot of time with witch doctors. All of his children have become Christians now and he says he doesn’t feel comfortable outside of the faith. His is a mason by trade. He wants prayer to go deeper in God and he wants “God to keep him until the end”. He also wants to marry the mother of his children and be baptized. Praise God!

This girl named Nanouse, from Bout-Nat, says she accepted Christ 3 months ago and has become part of the church. She is 24 years old and she likes gardening with garlic and tomatoes. She has a low education and a boyfriend. Before accepting Christ, she used to go to the witch doctor, to rara, voodoo and she gambled. She went to the witch doctor because she had a disease, she shared that if she got close to a Christian she would start manifesting an unclean spirit. She says she knows there are so many changes in her life. God has healed her from her disease. He has given her a house. A couple of weeks ago she went to the youth event in Gros morne and there were many troubled youth with unclean spirits and she was able to help pray for them. She asked us to pray for her to be a solid Christian and for her parents and boyfriend to become Christian.

These are just two of the people who recently have given their lives to God. They both say their lives have changed for the better. Please lift them up in prayer, along with the others that are new to Christ.

New Generation Ministries is designating Friday February 22nd, as a "Day of Prayer for Haiti" We are calling all people who care about the people of Haiti. Not for one side or the other, not one position or another. But for the people, the families, the children, the jobs, the food, the safety and security of the Nation of Haiti, to survive this assault of greed and corruption that is tearing the country of Haiti apart, and hurting and killing countless innocent people in the process. Please pray for peace and order to prevail for the sake of the innocent. 

We are asking you, and other ministries that you know of, to join with us in asking their followers, to keep Haiti in their prayers all throughout Friday February 22nd; that God would intervene by the power and authority of His Holy Spirit in the minds and hearts of the leaders, and people of influence, in Haiti.
We know that you care about God's children in Haiti, and have given your life as a living sacrifice for God's purposes in Haiti. That is why we are asking you to join spiritual hands in unity, as we call upon thousands of prayer warriors, supporters, child sponsors, and followers of Haiti ministries, to ask God to intervene in the chaos and corruption and bring peace and order to Haiti.

Ask in any way that you think most appropriate. No obligation to us at all. We know that a bigger voice on earth, will get more attention in Heaven!.......Amen   Please pass this on to as many as possible.

We want to thank you for your prayers for Haiti. They are so valuable right now. The people of Haiti need to to be able to live their daily lives, they need to be able to work, go to school, buy food, get medical help, they and their families need to be safe. They need to be able to have a voice without the use of violence.

As you know from our last letter, we were supposed to fly to Haiti last Tuesday evening. We were rescheduled by Sea Tac airport, and booked to fly to Haiti tonight. But, the civil unrest has increased instead of decreased in the last few days. So once again we are changing our flight, this time just placing it on hold as we do not know when things will settle down enough to travel safely in Haiti. This is the report from the Embassy issued today.

There are currently widespread, violent, and unpredictable demonstrations in Port-au-Prince and throughout Haiti.  Due to these demonstrations, on February 14, 2019, the Department of State has ordered the departure of all non-emergency U.S. personnel and their families. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Haiti.

 Protests, tire burning, and road blockages are frequent and unpredictable.  Violent crime, such as armed robbery, is common. Travelers are sometimes targeted, followed, and violently attacked and robbed shortly after leaving the Port-au-Prince international airport. Local police may lack the resources to respond to serious criminal incidents, and emergency response, including ambulance service, is limited or non-existent.

This is so heart breaking. And there are so many opinions on what is happening and what the solution may be.  Please continue to lift Haiti up in prayer, praying for solutions and peace. Also pray for wisdom for the leaders of our churches on how to best help their people. Pray for wisdom for us also, that we can be a true help during these struggles. We want to do what is best to help the people of Haiti long term, not just as a quick fix. Your prayers are so valuable in moving the kingdom forward.

Hello,

We have decided to postpone our flight to Haiti by a couple of days. Instead of flying Tuesday evening we will be flying out Thursday evening. We were offered the change by Sea Tac airport. We are hoping a couple of more days will help both stateside, due to weather conditions and in Haiti, due to political unrest. 

Please lift up the people of Haiti in prayer. Manifestations usually do not leave the Port au Prince area or Arcahaie and Saint Marc, but there have been manifestations all over Haiti this past week. And, there have been some very violent ones in Gonaives also. Some are trying to over throw the current president. But there are many other problems hurting the people. The value of the Gourde keeps going lower and there is a shortage of fuel. Gourdes were 60 to 1$ American dollar when we first moved to Haiti. The gourde is now 82.54, giving the people less buying power then they had. For many this means they can not even buy food or essentials. There is a lot of fear and loss of hope. Please pray for peace, hope and the needs of the people. Please pray for us as we make travel decisions. Please pray for us for wisdom in how to best help.
